Original Title:
Η ανθρώπινη ψυχολογία και τα κατοικίδια ζώα.
Translated title:
Human psychology and pets.
Summary:
The subject of this paper is the search for the relationship between human psychology and the existence of pets. Initially, human psychology will be examined and an attempt will be made on the one hand to determine the field of study and on the other hand to look for how it is influenced and shaped. Then, the beginnings of human contact with animals and especially with domestic animals will be studied. More specifically, issues related to the reasons for choosing pets, their origin, the reasons behind a choice of acquiring a pet, the consequences of a possible loss, and the conditions of abandonment of pets will be investigated. Furthermore, an attempt will be made to find the existence or non-existence of an influential relationship of pets -and especially dogs- in human psychology, while at the same time it will be recorded whether this effect is evaluated as positive or negative in the psychology of the individual. In addition, special mention will be made of the effect that pets have on vulnerable social groups. Finally, cognitive theories related to the effect of pets on children’s development will be studied, while the question of the well-being of pets will also be raised.
