Yes, Pergamos is the Institutional Repository (IR) of the University of Athens. Pergamos is available for self-archiving of material only to members of the academic community (theses, dissertations, scientific publications, research material, etc.). In self-archiving, the user who deposits an item must be either its creator or one of its creators.

Preferably, open a support ticket in English at https://helpdesk.lib.uoa.gr/?lang=en_US , selecting "Pergamos" as the problem type (for usage instructions, see the link: https://helpdesk.lib.uoa.gr/kb/faq.php?id=13 ).

Alternatively, you can report it by sending an e-mail either to helpdesk (at) lib.uoa.gr or to pergamos (at) lib.uoa.gr .

In case the visitor finds an error in the information for an item or simply wants to add something, he/she should contact the respective Owner or Contact Person for the specific collection or item.

Alternatively, he/she can open a support ticket in English at https://helpdesk.lib.uoa.gr/?lang=en_US , selecting "Pergamos" as the type of problem (for usage instructions, please see the link: https://helpdesk.lib.uoa.gr/kb/faq.php?id=13 ) or even report it by sending an e-mail to either helpdesk (at) lib.uoa.gr or pergamos (at) lib.uoa.gr.

Users belonging to the academic community of the University of Athens, depending on their status, can add grey literature works or scientific publications through the self-deposit process.

Users outside the Institution who have material that may be related to one of the digital collections of Pergamos, can preferably contact the administrators of the respective collection directly. In case of inability, alternatively, they can open a support request ticket in English at https://helpdesk.lib.uoa.gr/?lang=en_US , selecting "Pergamos" as the type of problem (usage instructions can be found at the link: https://helpdesk.lib.uoa.gr/kb/faq.php?id=13 ) or even report it by sending an e-mail either to the address helpdesk (at) lib.uoa.gr or to pergamos (at) lib.uoa.gr .

There are no common access policies for each document/digital object available through the Pergamos IR. It is essential for visitors to consult the “Access Rights” field of each entry.

The Pergamos contents are, in general, freely available to the general public, since Pergamos adopts open access policies. However, it is worth noting that, unless explicitly stated otherwise, access to the material (digital or not) contained in Pergamos and any use thereof (e.g. printing, storage, copying, etc.) is permitted exclusively for educational, research and private purposes, but not for commercial ones.

Furthermore, any use of the material must be accompanied by at least a reference to its permanent electronic address in Pergamos, as well as to the creator of the original.

The item may be subject to copyright restrictions, may be available ONLY within the NKUA network, or may be subject to a time-limited access with a specific release date.

The "Export citation" feature allows you to "export" the bibliographic information of each record in "Pergamos" and use it as a bibliographic reference, by importing it into a reference manager software.

More specifically, for your convenience, three different formats for organizing the bibliographic reference are provided for you to choose from, depending on the reference management software you use:

  • BibTex: structured format of documentation fields, which can be imported into Tex/Latex, Citavi, Mendeley, JabRef, Zotero, RefWorks, etc.
  • RIS: structured format of documentation fields, which can be imported into EndNote, Citavi, Mendeley, JabRef, Zotero, RefWorks, etc.
  • Text: a plain text format for generic use, where the values of the exported documentation fields are separated by commas.

In general, you can use any modern and up-to-date browser. In particular, we recommend using Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Microsoft Edge, which have been extensively tested. Other modern browsers can also be used with caution.

This icon allows you to export your search results to Excel format.

However, only the first 500 results are exported, so you need to effectively narrow your search.

To begin with, the material you want to include in the collection must be located on the premises of the University of Athens and either belong to the University of Athens or the University of Athens has the ownership or assignment of the relevant copyrights.

In any case, you must complete and submit the relevant application to the Library and Information Center Directorate.

For more information, you can send a message to the address pergamos (at) lib.uoa.gr.

The fact that your search does not return results, does not necessarily mean that you are doing something wrong, as not all the theses that have been issued at NKUA are available in digital form in Pergamos:

  • There are theses from 1998 onwards, with their volume increasing from the mid-2000s onwards.
  • Furthermore, only from 2016 onwards has the submission of theses to Pergamos become mandatory.

The NKUA library contains a large number of theses and dissertations in printed form that have not been digitized and are not included in Pergamos.

You can also search for printed theses in the library's catalog (OPAC) .

  • However, note that your searches in the catalog may not yield results either, as there may be works that are not catalogued and, therefore, indexed.

The way Pergamos performs searches uses the "stemming" technique. Namely, it uses the root of each term (removing the suffix), resulting in more results than you might expect. In this logic, if you search for the term "Zervos", you will be given results that also contain the terms "Zervos", "Zervas", etc.

Therefore, it is possible that the item you are looking for is not immediately visible, but that you will have to navigate through the results to find it.

Also, if you searched by trying to put the author's name in the "Persons" field, then it is possible that it will not show it as this field does not apply to authors of "gray literature" works.

It is safer for the case that you are searching for author names (whether "gray literature" or more general) to search either using the box at the top right that prompts you to enter "System code or free text", or if you selected search from the navigation menu, to use the "Free text" field from the search criteria.

Furthermore, regarding author names, it is a good idea to try searching both with "last name first name" and with "first name last name" (preferred), if you know both author details, in order to ensure all possible cases and possible results.

It has been observed that certain browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are unable to open certain PDF files (usually displaying error messages "Error. Loading the document failed" and "This file cannot be opened. A problem has occurred", respectively).

In this case, you can try accessing the specific entry with another browser (e.g. Firefox) which, as we have found, does not display a problem.
