The first model is derived from all available radiance measurements made by satellites and the second one from all available rocketsonde-derived measurements. The main deviations between the two models exist (a) at high latitudes at the middle and upper strato-mesosphere, depending on season, and (b) at low and middle latitudes of the Southern hemisphere at the upper mesosphere. © 1992 Taylor and Francis Ltd.
