It is, therefore, obvious why the role of the government in the digital age is directly, linked to the necessary policies and legislation needed to boost e-commerce. This paper claims that an e-government is much more than a law-maker to enable e-commerce. Without using political a,ld social science disciplines to envision a new reason of existence for e-governments, the paper establishes a vision and a step-wise approach for governments which want to address the requirements posed by the their ‘customers’ - citizens and businesses - and prepare themselves for the unpredictable new world of the digital age.
