Summary:
The aim of this thesis is the hydro-geochemical research of the groundwaters
and surface waters of Central-Northern Euboea. A total of hundred and two (102)
groundwater samples were collected from the study area during the dry periodand
sixty seven (67)groundwater samples were collected during the wet period.
Additionally, twelve (12) surfacewater samples were collected during the wet
period. The groundwater and surfacewater sampleswere analyzed forSO42-, NO3-,
PO43-, Cl-, HCO3-, Κ+, Νa+, Ca+2, Mg+2, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Fe, Co, Mn, Cd andPb.
Groundwatersof the study area correspond mainly to the following
types:Mg-HCO3,Ca-HCO3,Na-Cland Mg-Cl.Surface watersof the study area correspond
mainly to the following types:Mg-HCO3 andCa-HCO3.The higher nitrate groundwater
contents were recorded in the southern part of the study area due to the
extensive application of nitrogen fertilizers. This study found concentrations
of trace elements Ni, Cu, Zn, Fe, Co, Mn, Cd and Pb in groundwater of the area
studied that do not exceed the parametric values of Greeklegislationon "Water
quality for human consumption". The chromium (Cr) content of two (2)
groundwater samples was found to exceed the parametric value of
Greeklegislationon "Water quality for human consumption" which is mainly
attributed to the dissolution of ultrabasic rocks. This study found
concentrations of trace elements Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Fe, Co, Mn, Cd and Pb in
surface waters of the area studied that do not exceed the parametric values of
Greeklegislationon "Water quality for human consumption".
