Techniques for heterogeneous and flexible wireless communication systems
Summary:
The research topic of the PhD thesis is the study and the design of techniques
for contemporary heterogeneous wireless communication systems. More
specifically the focus is in the development of techniques and algorithms for
radio resource management and interference management, of system design
methodologies that support cognitive functionalities, and of processes for
physical layer algorithmic design.
In the field of radio resource and interference management, the goal is in the
compatibility of the proposed techniques with the 3GPP LTE/LTE-Advanced and
IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) standards. The work focuses on cellular network topologies
that support a variety of small cells. In the proposed solutions special
attention is given on the use of radio environmental information – the research
led to the creation of a systemic methodology aims to facilitate the
integration of cognitive functionalities in a wireless heterogeneous network.
In the field of physical layer algorithmic design, the research activity led in
the development of a general framework for the design of adaptive modulation
and coding algorithms, based on a compact link level performance prediction
model, suitable for real-time optimization.
