Topological and non-topological solitons in spontaneously broken gauge theories
Summary:
The present thesis studies the classical dynamics of the Abelian-Higgs model.
By using
multiscale perturbation theory, the initial system of equations is reduced to a
system of
coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations. Exact solutions of the latter in the
form of bright
and dark solitons correspond to approximate but analytical solutions in the
form of oscillons
and oscillating kinks of the initial system. In particular, the regions of
existence of the
aforementioned solutions depend solely on the ratio of the Higgs to the gauge
eld masses.
Numerical simulations are also employed, to verify the robustness as well as
the longevity
of the obtained solutions, and are found to be in a very good agreement with
respect to the
analytical findings. Connections of the results with the phenomenology of
superconductors
are discussed.
