Summary:
Vascular complications of transplanted kidney including renal artery stenosis,
arteriovenous dysplasia and pseudoaneurysm, mycotic aneurysm and graft’s
thrombosis are well-known cause of graft dysfunction and they are potentially
curable when are diagnosed early. Color Doppler Ultrasonography (CDU) is the
screening procedure of choice in most studies whereas some centers employ
Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA), if available. Although both CDU and MRA
can arouse suspicion of disease in less symptomatic cases, angiographic
techniques are essential, in most cases for confirmation and possible
treatment. Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty (PTA) is widespread
therapeutic approach to treatment of vascular lesions especially TRAS due to
its acceptable complication rate and high technical success. The purpose of
this paper is to assess the safety and efficacy of PTA in vascular pathologies’
treatment, to compare long-term outcomes from different reports and to examine
the role of PTA with stenting in inhibiting recurrence of the disease.
