Original Title:
Αξιολόγηση λειτουργίας του ογκολογικού συμβουλίου σε ένα γενικό νοσοκομείο
Languages:
Greek
Summary:
Although in recent years cancer treatment (diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy)
improved considerably, a large proportion of patients relapse, show metastases
and eventually is being lead to death.
The modern treatment and optimal care of patients with malignant tumors
involves a multifaceted approach. It requires a multifactorial effort, in order
to make better and possibly less traumatic the management of a patient that in
addition to classical methods is sometimes being accompanied by adjuvant
systemic therapy.
This study addresses the issue of the proper management of an oncology patient,
through a comprehensive analysis of different cases that those being involved
have to face. It seems that partial "anarchy" prevails in the Greek landscape,
mainly concerning education, as well as the management of the patient “on
time”. These two factors mentioned above may put in danger the patient but also
pose risks for medical acts that can be characterized as criminal.
Furthermore, a description of the institutional and scientific framework of the
operation and role of Oncology Boards was included,
The General Part of this thesis refers to the oncology patient’s management and
legal issues, ethical, and psychological texture arising in connection with the
treatment of neoplasmatic diseases.
Specific Section presents data from the oncology board operation in a General
Hospital of Athens. For the presentation of these data tools of descriptive
statistics were used, so that through tables, pie and bar charts the results of
the research can be easily perceived.

Finally, for the comprehensive presentation of the subject there are separate
annexes of relevant International Conventions, details for the central venous
line for proper drug administration and data for the establishment and
operation of Oncology Boards, whose decision, based on their institutional
framework is binding for the doctors and should be strictly followed for the
treatment of their patients.
