The purpose of this study is to compare the method of metabolomics in relation
to the control of embryos by the embryologist and the correlation of gene
polymorphism Ser680Asn FSH receptor and the PvuII and Rsal polymorphisms of
genes ESR1 and ESR2 estrogen receptor ERa and ERβ according to the assessment
of the morphology of embryos through metabolomics, women participating in IVF
This study was carried out in cooperation two IVF laboratories. In Athens IVF
Center came 53 women did the hormonal control, all the process of in vitro
fertilization and taking blood for further tests. In the laboratory of Assisted
Reproduction in Alexandra Hospital became the detection of polymorphisms on
genes of the estrogen receptor and receptor-FSH.
A comparison of the results of the metabolomics machine with the morphological
criteria evaluated by the embryologist and determined whether there is
agreement. The percentage agreement was high, about 70% while there was
disagreement was 30% of cases. The device evaluated as "good quality embryos"
more embryos than the embryologist. In our try to determine where they disagree
and agree both methods (evaluation embryologist and machine) methods were
checked on the result, by achieving pregnancy or not. So, regarding the false
positive rates of the machine and the embryologist is 43.4% and 28.3%
respectively, while rates of false negative results are the same in both
Also checked the correlation of the metabolomics values between the different
genotypes for each of the 3 studied genes. There was no association between the
polymorphisms of genes ESR1, ESR2, FSHR and ranges of metabolomics of embryos.
Each one of these two indicators is a criterion for the achievement of
pregnancy, but is not related to each other. Polymorphisms play a role in
predicting the response of ovarian stimulation, while metabolomics play a role
in the selection of viable embryos.
