Summary:
The subject of the current essay is anger. The conception for this essay
emerged from reflecting on human relationships, which are governed by tensions
and conflicts, due to complex social roles that characterize modern people, and
professional expectations posed by today's society. In Greek and foreign
literature, anger has been explored as a negative emotion that governs
children, adolescent and adult relationships.

The focus of this essay is whether anger -if managed with the appropriate
strategies- could contribute to the development of the mental health of the
individual and at the same time help him improve the quality of his personal
and social life.

The purpose of the literature review is to assess the results of all research
in relation to anger management in order to prove that the management
techniques could contribute to the prevention of negative behaviors, in the
management of self-control and in the development and promotion of one’s mental
health.

Through the methodology of literature review an in-depth study of Greek and
foreign literature is undertaken, so as to theoretically approach anger,
inquiring at the same time searching techniques concerning anger prevention and
management.
Initially the work explores the conceptual clarification of terms: affect,
feeling, emotion, mood and anger. Then, there is an attempt of a diachronic
approach of anger and its description. Then follow the causes of anger’s
expression, according to the bio-psycho-social model applicable in psychiatry
and the corresponding anger interpretation theories (cognitive, behavioral,
neuro-psychological) are presented. Comprehensively, there is a description of
different ways of expressing anger, as well as its types and stages. A more
analytical approach is sought concerning the effects of anger on the
mental-physical health and interpersonal relationships. What is more, there is
a quest for anger prevention, control techniques and for anger management
strategies. Finally, there is a study of Prevention and Programs anger
management, as well as a submission of corresponding proposals for the
Promotion of Mental Health concerning individuals, school and social
interactions.
