Μελέτη της αντίστασης στην ινσουλίνη, λιπιδαιμικού προφίλ και θυρεοειδικής λειτουργίας σε παιδιά με χαμηλό βάρος για την ηλικία κύησης.
Summary:
The identification of SGA (small for gestational age) babies is usually based
on cut-offs of birth weight for gestational age.
Diagnosis of SGA babies is of paramount importance given their worse early
postnatal outcome than that of well-grown babies and the possible long term
consequences of in utero malnutrition.
Recent studies, however, have shown that these babies are at increased risk of
developing cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome in adult life.
This paper presents the association of birth weight and the insulin resistance
and also the possible disorders of lipids and thyroid dysfunction in children
who have born small for gestational age.
Following these investigations the evaluation of the proper laboratory markers
are of major importance for the early detection of these children at increased
risk.
