In the present study the impact of the recent economic crisis in Greece in
mental health is examined. The sample that was studied comes from three
hospitals in Athens belonging to the National Health System (E.S.Y). The sample
consists of 4,221 individuals, 219 from Viron-Kaisariani Hospital, 699 from the
General Hospital G. Genimmatas and 3,303 from the Aiginhteion Hospital.
Logistic regression was performed for the diagnostic group of patients and for
the existence of suicidal ideation. Several methods were applied to deal with
missing values including complete case analysis, missing indicator method and
multiple imputations. Longterm trends of minor mental disorders were found
during the period 2008-2010, finding consistent for different methods of
handling missing data. Longterm trends of suicidal ideation were not found
during the same period. Further research is recommended with inclusion of the
years 2011-2012 to detect longterm trends of suicidal ideation as well minor
mental disorders such as depression and anxiety disorder.
