Summary:
The purpose of this study was to assess and monitor the quality of patients’
life with coronary artery disease in the Third Age and to explore the burden on
families (caregivers), as a result of the care they provide to the elderly. The
survey was conducted in KAPI (Open Care Center Elderly) and the City of
Heliopolis in which 200 people participated: 100 elderly men and women with
coronary heart disease aged 65-80 years and 100 relatives, who have the primary
responsibility for their care. Both the patients and caregivers were
administered with questionnaires and particularly: anonymous questionnaire
'QUALITY OF LIFE” WHOQOL-BREF in patients with coronary artery disease and
anonymous questionnaire "SCALE OF FAMILY BURDEN" to the families of the
elderly. According to the survey results, a small percentage of respondents
characterize their health as being poor. However, all participants have
experienced cardiac problems. Regarding the caregiver’s burden, it generally
became clear a modest cost, both in the financial and daily activities and
social life, as well as in the aggressive behavior and the impact on health and
behavior.
