Purpose : The man spends a large part of everyday life in the work place. This
fact, combined with the poor infrastructure and building, an active lifestyle,
prescribing western societies, it is possible to reduce the quality of life,
creating many health problems, not only physically but mentally too. Such as
hypertension, headaches, heart disease, etc. In our country the last decade
have created many frontline services (public service), where employees have
direct contact with the public, which is charging them more because they have
to manage with two factors:
• Stress of daily life
• Public Services
Target :The aim is to study and investigate in which environmental factors,
such as respiratory infection, hypersensitivity reactions, viral infections,
which are a result of sick building syndrome. Officials daily are exposed and
charged to their health. Moreover, it’s necessary to considered other
stressors, which exacerbates this phenomenon
Design and Methods : This work is experimental in nature and examines the
impact of the environment in health. It was examined via questionnaire,
involving 46 employees, who work in public service departments. Three
questionnaires were used. A questionnaire for the diagnosis of "Sick Building
Syndrome", the Maslach questionnaire Burnout Inventory, MBI, Maslach C Jackson
and S. E. (1986), and a measurement range of the Stress by Jones C., (1999).
During the survey recorded heart rate and oxygen saturation, and blood pressure
of employees at the beginning and the end of their shifts, also measurements
were taken on the air quality in buildings where they worked.
Results: After analyzing the data using the statistical package SPSS v17 and
the use of Microsoft Excel, to generate charts, found that public sector
buildings account for more the characteristics of a "sick building" and are
more diverse than those of the private sector. Regarding the second part, that
of labor and fatigue both sexes show an average rating of a sentimental
exhaustion, low score of depersonalization and high marks of personal
consummation, not only in private sector but in public too. At the third part
of research on stress in the workplace observed that, male workers tend to have
higher levels of stress compared with women in their daily lives. While the
last part of the survey, concerning measurements on heart rate, blood pressure
and oxygen saturation were observed remarkable changes. Specifically, heart
rate and blood pressure are increasing at the end of working hours, to all
employees regardless of sex and field of work.
