Phthalates in cosmetics and the effects on human health
Summary:
Endocrine disrupters (EDCs), are chemicals that may interfere with the body’s
endocrine system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological
and
immune effects in humans.
There are natural and man-made chemicals that were tested for ED effects.
Dioxin, polychlorinated biphenyls, DDT, and other polychlorinated pesticides,
plasticizers, phthalates, preservatives are a variety of synthetic organic
chemicals.
The hypothesis that hormonally active compounds in the environment are having a
significant impact on human, has captured the puplic’s attention.
In this review, we present and dictate the EDCs (phthalates and preservatives)
that
exist in several cosmetics (creams, shampoo’s, bath shower’s..). We will
analyze how
they act, what they cause and what is the main point concerning public health.
