Clubfoot is a congenital (from birth) deformity of the foot and is among the
most common deformity of the bones and the leg joints in newborns. The
incidence is approximately 1 in 1000 babies. The causes of clubfoot is not
exactly known but is probably a genetic disorder. The heel usually appears to
be more narrow and the muscles in the calf is weaker than a normal foot. The
main features are koilopodia, varus, bringing and equinus. Diagnostic
procedures clubfoot may also include X-rays, which shows what kind of
distortion is. In addition, a classification of clubfoot is required in order
to determine the prognosis and the treatment. After the evaluation begins the
restoration of clubfoot. So we have the conservative treatment through
physiotherapy means and they have dual purpose; to halt further deformation
and to correct it via passive and active physiotherapy, similar splints,
guardians, corrective casts Ponseti with very good results, orthopedic footwear
and method Kite. The therapeutic effect depends and is determined mainly by
the type of clubfoot generating the deformation, but also of the early
rehabilitation.
