Summary:
The seronegative spondyloarthropathies (SpA) is a group of chronic inflammatory
diseases consisting of ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, psoriatic
arthritis and arthritis associated with inflammatory bowel diseases. Early
diagnosis is of the utmost importance for early treatment and control of
disease progression. Detection of sacroiliitis and inflammation foci at lumbar
spine is essential for early diagnosis. Classical radiography may be negative
or suspicious in initial changes of sacroiliitis while MRI is considered the
most sensitive and specific method for detecting sacroiliitis. The purpose of
the review is to assess the role of bone scintigraphy in diagnostic evaluation
of patients with seronegative spondyloarthropathy, especially in the early
stages of the disease.
