Summary:
INTRODUCTION : The evaluation of the quality of life is among the
most important parameters in health care, especially in the field of
oncology. The side effects of head and neck radiotherapy can worsen
the patients quality of life.
PURPOSE : To evaluate the patients’ quality of life, undergoing
radiotherapy at the beginning, at the end and 3 months afterwards,
using the questionnaires QLQ-C30 and QLQ-H&N35 of EORTC.
PATIENTS AND METHODS : The participants of this survey (n=24) underwent
head and neck radiotherapy. The patients completed the questionnaires
QLQ-C30 and QLQ-H&N35 of EORTC at the beginning, at the end and 3
months after the end of the radiotherapy.
RESULTS : The population of the study consisted of 24 patients, 20
men and 4 women. Their quality of life becomes worse during the
head and neck radiotherapy (P<0,001)(mean scores 110,96 at the
beginning of the radiotherapy and mean score 142,96 at the end of
the radiothrapy). It seems to be improved during the three months
following the radiotherapy (mean score 122,04 3 months post
radiotherapy) (P<0,01).
CONCLUSIONS : Health-related quality of life worsens during the
radiotherapy and improves during the following 3 months, with proper
medication and care.
