Summary:
Earthquakes occurs in our country since ancient times. The man accepts the
consequences of earthquakes without being able to stop them or to forecast
them. Then, the Gravity is given to the seismic defense of the country, namely
to the creation of anti-seismic constructions and to create seismic
consciousness among citizens. The present work explores the seismic
consciousness of the Public, Daily students of III Gymnasium class, in the
Prefecture of Attica.
It was given a questionnaire, investigating the students' knowledge, their
experiences from an earthquake that they felt and their attitudes and behaviors
before, during and after the earthquake. Also explored issues related to school
life of the student in relation to the earthquake and some biographical
elements, completely anonymously.
Proceded by a pilot study in 3 schools (63 students) for any changes to the
questionnaire. The main sample was stratified (non-proportional), based on the
seismicity of the area, wherein the selected school belongs, the Directorate of
Secondary Education where it belongs, and the number of schools of the
Directorate. The final selection was made by random sampling. They examined 17
Schools (14 main and three pilot research) on all 410 Public Daily Gymnasiums
in the Prefecture of Attica (29 733 students). They gathered 302 + 63 = 365
questionnaires. Followed by repetitive distribution of the questionnaire in one
school (23 students) in the Prefecture of Attica, for the questionnaire
reliability check.
The statistical analysis was followed for testing the reliability and validity
of the questionnaire. In the next step was univariate analysis for the data of
all Directorates of Secondary Education and an analysis of the most important
questions for each Directorate. The bivariate analysis was done of student’s
sex relationships with some important questions. Acceptable level of
statistical significance was considered the p <0.05 i.e. the possibility of
error in the estimation of statistical conclusions to be 5%. Finally the
results of the statistical analysis, created supervisory maps of the Prefecture
of Attica in environment GIS
