Geomorphological, speleological and archaeogeomoprhological observations in Thisvi region, Boeotia
Summary:
The present master thesis entitled «Geomorphological, Speleological and
Archaeogeomorphological observations in Thisvi region, Boeotia» is about the
study of the geomorphological conditions in the area of Thisvi region, Boeotia,
an area of peculiar tectonic and geodynamic characteristics. It is located in
the NW boundaries of Thiva basin and presents an area of 40 Km2. Its altitude
ranges from the sea level to 800m a.s.l.The surface relief of the studied area
includes the wider region of Alyki and Kapareli communities and presents the
direct impact of the tectonic forces upon its landforms. This peculiar
geological environment, taking into account the dominant cropping out of M.-Up.
Triassic – Jurassic Limestones Dolomites of Boeotian Zone, presents a landforms
plethora so in the terrestrial as in the submarine area. Due to the
aforementioned, geomorphological and speleological observations were carried
out in order the geomorphological conditions which directed the relief
development to be known. Also, data derived from archaeogeomorphological
observations in the quasi-submerged ancient city of Siphai contributed to the
palaeogeographical reconstruction of the area.
