Teaching paleoenvironment in education. Apply in vertebrate paleontology and in paleoanthropology
Summary:
The present dissertation entitled “Teaching the Palaeoenvironment. An
application in Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology” is an attempt to
introduce the study of the Palaeoenvironment in the fifth and sixth grades of
Elementary School. Essentially, it aims to propose educational materials which
are usable for students and, at the same time, easily manageable for the
teacher. It specifically focuses on Vertebrate Paleontology and
Paleoanthropology.
The proposed themes are addressed within the school subject Environmental
Education (“Flexible zone”). The materials are divided into three thematic
areas: Paleozoic Century, Mesozoic Century and Cenozoic Century, each of which
is divided into subsections. The latter include suggested student activities,
which are diverse so as to be motivating. The topics featured are the evolution
of fish, reptiles and especially dinosaurs, as well as that of mammals and
humans.
