WebQuest is an inquiry-based teaching activity, in which students participate
in an authentic task or are involved in solving a problem situation, by using
internet resources (though other resources can also be used). Some of the basic
benefits that a webquest has as a teaching practice are: creativity,
motivation, active learning, development of critical thinking, achieving
learning goals through inquiry process and connection to authentic contexts.
Moreover, webquest provides students with the appropriate investigating
framework by specifying the structure and the components of lesson while the
teacher is facilitated with the design of the learning process and provided
with all the necessary information
This thesis concerns of the use of a webquest in the teaching process and
presents the development of a chemistry webquest about the Periodic Table for
the Third Grade of high school, which was created according to the curriculum.
More specifically, the first part of this thesis explores the issues
surrounding the theoretical view of webquests. As a part of this study some
popular network platforms where the webquests can be published on are presented
in detail and finally there is a comparative study of this effort.
The second part of this thesis examines the appliance of webquest in teaching
chemistry process. After searching the web for chemistry webquests, which have
been provided for free access, and categorized according to their inspiration.
The study was supplemented by a detailed presentation of two representative
chemistry webquests. As a final product of this study a chemistry webquest was
designed and developed on the Periodic Table for the Third Grade, as mentioned
above.
