Catalogue of Historical Earthquakes and Macroseismic Intensities Database of Greece in 18th Century
Summary:
The ultimate aim of this diplomatic thesis is the syntax of a parametric
catalogue of Greece historical earthquakes in 18th century (1700-1799).  The
macroseismic intensity data derivated from Ambraseys catalogue narratives
separately for each earthquake.  Macroseismic intensity data points (MDPs) are
the only form of numerical data available. Intenstity data shown in maps
accompanied by isoseismal lines. From these data calculated the earthquake
parameters. The parameters to be determined are the location, the size of each
earthquake and depth. For this goal they were used 4 different methods
(algorithms). Specifically the Centroid method, the MEEP (Macroseismic
Estimation of Earthquake Parameters) method, Bakun and Wentworth  method and
finally Pairwise (Shumila) method.  The knowledge of these parameters is very
important because it can help to constant improvement of seismic hazard maps.
