An alternative proposal of teaching chemical concepts through movies"
Summary:
A proposition of teaching chemistry through films was designed, taking into
consideration the intact connection of Chemistry and Art. The steps that were
followed are the following:
Firstly, a review of the school chemistry books was made, through which the
luck of Cinema references was ascertained. In addition, the total lack of
references to Greek bibliography regarding the Teaching of Chemistry through
films was established and next, a bibliographic overview of international
references was made. Subsequently, an attitudes questionnaire was constructed
in order to investigate the first, second and third grade of high school
students' attitudes towards art and its relation to chemistry. The results of
the questionnaire were encouraging, leading to the development of an
interdisciplinary proposition of teaching chemistry through films, based on
international literature. In order to implement this proposition a teacher's
theoretical educational material was found necessary. This material included
two films: Erin Brockovich and Lorenzo's Oil. Using them as tool, the teacher
is able to scientifically document the relation between chemistry and their
content. Finally, student's educational material with work sheets corresponding
to the content of each film were designed.
