Condensation models of exciton polaritons in semiconductor microcavities
Summary:
This study is the M.Sc. thesis in “Electronics-Radioelectronics” postgraduate
program of School of Sciences of National and Kapodistrian University of
Athens. The M.Sc. thesis concerns the creation of exciton-polaritons in
semiconductor microcavities under the strong coupling regime. The first
approach of this topic in this study concerns the mechanism and the phenomena
that take place in semiconductor microvavities, which lead to the appearance of
exciton-polaritons. The second approach concerns the condensation properties of
the polaritonic systems, as well as the different models that describe the
system under different types of pumping and if spin sensitive phenomena are
taken into account. In addition, there is a unified approach between laser
systems, atomic condensates and polaritonic condensates through well known
mathematic equations, in an attempt to reveal the similarities between these
different physical systems.
