Summary:
The genomics technology is the technology used for the manipulation and
analysis of genomic information. The consequent biological and technological
evolution, along with the contribution of other equally important factors led
to the genomics era of recent years, which is nothing else than the large-scale
analysis and study of genes, transcripts, proteins, lipids , metabolites, and
all their interactions, which are the foundation and driving force of all
biological systems. The resulting new knowledge and technological developments
will be the basis for the next transformation of Biology. It is becoming
increasingly clear that the information contained in the genome, and these of
molecular networks are fundamental in order to understand the functions of
living organisms. One way of expressing this is that Biology will become,
greatly, an information science. Although the Biology of the future is not yet
fully visible, it is clear that these are among the things that will create the
New Biology. The applications of these technologies are already visible,
focusing on the discovery of new biomarkers and new drugs that are more
effective (more specific and less toxic), and lead straight to personalized
therapies.
