Πειραματική και Θεωρητική Αξιολόγηση Ψυχρών Υλικών με τη χρήση στοιχείων Λανθάνουσας Θερμότητας (PCMs)
For the phase change of a material (melting/solidification) a large amount of
energy is needed offered or extracted from the material. Phase Change Materials
(PCMs), taking advantage of that effect, are capable of storing latent heat and
subsequently appropriately used in Thermal Control and Energy Saving
Applications. In this study PCMs are examined as Building material and
evaluated concerning their capability to store heat, reduce the energy
consumption and mitigate the Heat Island Effect.
The first theoretical part of this study consists of a brief introduction
in Heat Energy and relevant phenomena, as also in the properties, categories
and applications of PCMs. In the second part, the experimental procedure using
cement tiles filled with PCM is explained and the correspondent results are
presented. The aim of this project is the use of such materials during sidewalk
construction as part of Heat Island Mitigation strategies.
