Problems in comparison of fractions
Summary:
Considering the relevant literature, the present research will study the
effects of two variables on the comparison of fractions: a) the distance
between fraction magnitudes, b) their agreement with the natural numbers. The
purpose of the experiment was to check the hypothesis that the whole number
ordering affects the comparison even on the undergraduates in Mathematics,
especially when the distance between fractions is very small. In our results
found that only the undergraduates had access to the fractional value. However,
all the participants appear to be affected by the integer parts of the
fractions using different strategies.
