Design and Implementation of a Talking Books Web Service
Summary:
The purpose of this dissertation is the design and implementation of a web
platform for the needs of the Panhellenic Association of the Blind and
specifically the Talking Books Lending Library. The aim of this platform is to
provide users with fair access to the electronic services of lending and
returning of talking books. Moreover, this platform should enable the
administrators to add new books and manage existing ones, as well as the
lending of them. However, the aim of the platform is to be accessible by the
visually impaired. For the purposes of the service, it was necessary to
transfer the entire workspace to an online platform, where the users can
lend/return books and with a separate administration panel. Additionally, the
accessibility of the platform was also mandatory, so that it can be used by the
visually impaired, as well as finding a way to tag the books borrowed by users
with steganography techniques to identify books that are potentially leaked.
The interface of the web application is accessible to the highest level (AAA)
according to the WCAG 2.0 guidelines of the World Wide Web Consortium.
