Original Title:
Υδροθερμική διάσπαση κυτταρίνης και επιπτώσεις της παρουσίας μπεντονίτη και υποστυλωμένου πηλού FAZA
Summary:
In this thesis we studied the hydrothermal degradation of a- Cellulose C8002 as
well as the heterogeneous hydrolysis of the same type of cellulose into sugars.
The reaction media during the thermal hydrolysis contained only sugar and
water. The reaction was studied between 160oC and 200oC for 3, 6 and 18 hours.
The catalysts used for the heterogeneous hydrolysis were natural bentonite
(clay) and the pillared clay FAZA II. In the first series, an amount of clay
was added to the mixture of cellulose and water, while in the second the
reaction media contained an amount of FAZA II catalyst. Both series were
studied for 3, 6 and 18 hours within a temperature range from 170oC to 200oC.
Both catalysts were prepared in our laboratory.
After the reaction, in both cases, the samples underlied chemical
analysis in order to calculate the total conversion of cellulose using a TOC
(Total Organic Carbon) analyzer. For the determination of the amount of sugars
produced a UV-Vis photometer was used and the absorbtion was measured in 540nm
wavelength. Finally, the amount of glucose contained in each sample was
measured using the GOD/PAP method.
