Spectral analysis of atmospheric parameters for the surface boundary layer in the region of Spata
Summary:
In this study the turbulent characteristics of the surface boundary layer are
examined. The correlation of various turbulent characteristics with the
inertial sub -range’s slope of spectra of velocity and temperature is also
examined.
The data were taken from a Sonic anemometer which was mounted to a 10m mast
during the ‘Εnvironmentally Compatible Air Transport System’ (ECATS) experiment
that took place in the airport El.Venizelos from 10 to 26 September 2007. The
data consists of wind speed components and temperature time -series. The
Sample frequency was 20Hz.
The mean values of the slope of spectral inertial sub-range were very close to
the theoretical value -5/3. Concerning the wind -speed spectra the dispersion
around the mean value was important in all the stability conditions.
Furthermore there was a trend for the wind-speed spectra in which the slopes of
the inertial sub-range were smaller than the theoretical value in the unstable
conditions. In the neutral and unstable conditions the slopes of the wind speed
spectra are positively correlated with the friction velocity.
