Mapping geoenviromental problems and estimating the riskiness and the vulnerability of the wider coastal zone of Marathon-Nea Makri-Schoinias.
Summary:
The research area of this paper concerns the wider coastal zone of
Marathonas-Schoinia-Nea Makrh suburbs that belong to the district of Attika
and are placed on the South-East littoral of the reisen.
The purpose of this study is to assess the susceptibility of landslides and the
costal Vulnerability of the research area. The asses for the susceptibility of
landslides was developed by using GIS and Multicriteria Decision Analysis.
Analytic Hierarchy Process and Weighted Linear Combination method were used to
create a landslide susceptibility map which provides valuable information
concerning the stability conditions of the territory and may help towards the
mitigation of natural landslide disasters in the study area.
The coastal vulnerability was estimated on the basis of three essential
factors. The onsite observation and register of the manmade intervention
longwise the coastal zone, the retreat study of the coastline through the
detailed diagram of the coastal area profile and last but not least, the
estimation of the coastal vulnerability index (CVI) . The emblazonment of the
profile was accomplished through ten crosscuts on the coastal zone, whereas the
recoil was actualized with the use of static models and in particular with the
methods of Dean and Kriebel & Dean.
The study of the coastal change is made in order to explore the presence of
corrosion phase, when with the use of hydrodynamic models we can approach the
quantity of the variations made in the littoral zone ,concerning the extreme
ripple which will come along with the expected rise of the sea level, in the
decades to come.
