Energy study of industrial unit's administration offices in Oinofita area, using computer and simulations programs
Summary:
The present thesis deals with the problem of energy saving in industry. It
focuses both on the critical scientific and the social issue of the decrease of
energy consumption and the general need for protection of the environment. The
factory is a place of large energy consumption and therefore a place of great
opportunities concerning the energy saving. This thesis aims to:
• Set rules, as they are defined by the standards of environmental and
energy management (ISO 140001, ISO 50001), for the energy saving in industry
through the mapping of productive processes and the flow of energy in them
• The energy study of buildings situated in an industrial environment and their
transformation into zero energy buildings.
The industrial unit of ELVAL (Hellenic Aluminum Industry S.A.) in Oinofyta is
chosen as case study. The main object of the research is the energy study of
the management’s offices, using simulation programs, in order to transform them
in zero energy buildings. Theprogramsthatwereusedare Trnsys 16 for the
simulation of the thermal characteristics of the building, PVGS for the
calculation of the efficiency of the photovoltaic systems that were used and
finally Relux Energy Light System for the study of the lightning systems.
A detailed listing of all the machinery and devices, which consume electrical
or thermal energy, was done in the building in question. Using the directive
TOTEE 20701-1/2010 the final consumptions for the heating, cooling, airing and
lighting were calculated. The current state was thus outlined, in which the
building appears to spend mostly energy for its internal gains even though the
ratio of people per square meter is relatively low.
Nine hypothetical scenarios were hatched for the energy study of the management’
s offices. The order in which these scenarios were hatched is based on the
following methodology: decrease of the energy losses in order to avoid the
consumptions due to a poor energy building. Use of high energy efficiency
systems and energy saving or proper use systems for the optimized building
cell. Finally, use of renewable sources of energy in order to offer the
building whatever was not able to be reduced, so that the energy balance can
approach zero.
After the implementation of these 9 actions the final consumption of the
building, concerning the electrical energy is calculated to be 14,2 kWh/m2/a
from 291 kWh/m2/a and the oil 6,7 kWh/m2/a from 45,1 kWh/m2/a. At the same time
the decrease of CO2 emission was calculated, from the results it turns out that
the emission of CO2, due to the use of electrical energy, was decreased 130 kg
CO2/m²/a and it is now 12 kgCO2/m²/a. Regarding the oil, the decrease was 9,02
kg CO2/m²/a and the value after scenario 9 is 1,76 kg CO2/m²/a.
