Original Title:
The Lower Pleistocene Marine Bivalves of Rhodes island (Greece) - Systematics, Palaeoecology
Translated title:
Τα θαλάσσια Δίθυρα του κάτω Πλειστοκαίνου της Ρόδου - Συστηματική, Παλαιοοικολογία
Summary:
The study focuses on the marine bivalves of the Kritika Section of the island
of Rhodes, and explores two issues. First of all, the biodiversity of the
bivalves of the section, which comprises mainly a systematic study, but also
the ecological characteristics (substrate, depth, feeding type…) are brought
out and assembled. The second part uses the results of the bivalves themselves
in order to extract information from the assemblages of each sample. This
allows for paleoenvironmental reconstructions to be made, including information
of the sea-level fluctuations. These results are in accordance with other works
that have yielded bathymetric results. Finally, assembling and characterising
both the species and their ecological habits, is an important database that
will help for future identificantions and/or paleoecological work.
