This dissertation presents a research study about the learning of
programming concepts through the students’ occupation with educational
robotics problems. Firstly, the concept of robotics, its application in
and its connection to other scientific fields is presented, while we emphasize
on educational robotics’ connection to programming. Moreover, we focus on
the application of specific educational models (Problem -Based Learning and
Project -Based Learning). Next, we describe the annual curriculum of
educational robotics, that was applied on the robotics group of the 1 st
Experimental High School of Athens, composed by students in the 1st and 2nd
grade, in the school year 2014- 2015. Furthermore,the empirical study we
have conducted than concerns the achievement of the educational goals of
programming through the application of the robotics curriculum. Not only the
educational goals that we have set, but also the outcome of this experimental
procedure of approaching algorithmic structures, is extensively presented.
Finally, this dissertation refers to some tools that associate with educational
robotics and programming, that form the future tendencies in education.
