The Cooperation Between Εducation and Local Government: The educators' beliefs
Summary:
This Thesis/dissertation examines the cooperation between Εducation and Local Government (L.G) and attempts to detect matters, fields and domains towards a more dynamic and efficient collaboration to the benefit of both institutions.
In particular:
The theoretical part refers briefly to the relevant legislation that describes the development of relations between the two institutions with special reference to Law 1566/85 until Law 3852/10. Furthermore, the European trends towards the participation of L.G. in educational matters is reported as well as the relevant criticism for the centralized nature of the greek educational system, which obstructs the development of collaboration with L.G. In this part, topics and cooperation fields that may help the interaction and transformation of the relation between school and L.G. with beneficial results to both the opening of the school towards the society, and the dynamic cultural and social development of L.G are indicated.
The research part presents the results of the research that was conducted with a sample of directors /teachers of all P.E. whose views present data about the relation, the collaboration and further broadening of the connection between these two institutions. The research is equally concentrated on further matters, referring to the joint actions of schools with L.G.O, the initiative of municipalities to inform and collaborate, the concerns of collaboration, the requests made from schools and the response from the municipalities, the support from L.G.O, in the promotion of innovations, the promotion of school’s activities related to the local community the response of L.G. as an institution, the opening of schools to local societies and the conversion of school to a learning organization, an organization that is taught and constantly transformed, that exploits the changing situations, successful and unsuccessful attempts and the experience of each and every member; an organization that constantly searches sources and collaborators.
Last but not least, in the research part results and suggestions are observed towards the development of the beneficial collaboration between the Education Institution and the O.T.A. the revitalization and improvement of the institutional, educational and social cooperation framework of school and L.G,
The results indicate an attitude of directors and teachers to collaborate and cooperate, however indications of distrust and difficulties were noticed. Teachers seek to continue following the central policy of ΥΠ.Π.Ε.Θ concerning labor relations, commissions and educational policy in general. They are not opposed to specialization of teachers-politicians locally, neither to their support from O.T.A in matters of countervailing matters and ‘assisting’ services.
We consider the contribution of this assignment/research to be very important, because it enriches the limited relevant bibliography about education and L.G.
