Summary:
The aim of this thesis was to record and analyze the way the content of the foreign media is displayed by the Greek TV newscasts during the election period of June 2012 and January 2015. Our research focused on how the foreign press represented Greece and the economic crisis that faces and their role in the construction of a negative image of the country. It also focused on the phenomenon of “coverage of the coverage” when the content of foreign media constitutes “news” in the Greek media. For that purpose, a qualitative and quantitative content analysis of television news during the pre-election and post-election period of Greek parliamentary elections of June 2012 and January 2015 was conducted. The quantitative and qualitative processing of our findings through the use of Critical Discourse Analysis showed that the foreign media coverage constitutes itself “news” for the Greek Media. It also confirmed the trend of presenting Greece as a "country-problem" because of the fiscal crisis that faces and threatens the Eurozone. In the content of news still dominated the pro- versus anti- bailout/ Memorandum division, while there were references on the dipole austerity or Grexit
