Investigating the multifaceted and invisible nature of the sex trafficking phenomenon
Summary:
The aim of this study is to investigate the causes which render the phenomenon of sex trafficking an “invisible” problem. Despite the extent of international sex trafficking and its growing importance as a political priority, our understanding of its qualitative and quantitative aspects remains largely incomplete and fragmentary. Bearing in mind its multifaceted nature and approaching it as a highly complex social, economic and political phenomenon with considerable ideological implications, the study in question attempts to approach this cognitive paradox in a holistic, interdisciplinary manner, investigating both the operational side and structure of the criminal groups and networks involved, as this develops in the illegal market of supply and demand, as well as the wider political, legal, ideological and scientific framework.
