Summary:
The anxiety and dysfunctional beliefs may affect the release, trajectory and prognosis of the disease and as a result the reduction of quality of life of the patients. Objectives: The purpose of the systematic review is to study the anxiety and dysfunctional beliefs in patients with prostate cancer awaiting for surgery. Material and Methods: There were searching international databases in (Scholar Google, Pubmed, Cochrane, Medline, PsychINFO, Cinahl Database, AUA, JNCI), with search strategy the following conditions: anxiety, prostate cancer, preoperatively, patients, dysfunctional beliefs. Ten articles were found for anxiety and dysfunctional beliefs for patients with prostate cancer who met the predetermined inclusion criteria for the systematic review. Results: The results of the review point that the symptoms of anxiety are more common symptoms than the depression in patients ≤ 65. The quality of life is affected by the fear of recurrence, anxiety and age. Patients ≤ 65 have a reduced quality of life, social functioning, sexual desire and express the need for psychosocial support. The increasing value of PSA, increased anxiety. African American have higher anxiety than Caucasians. Dysfunctional beliefs were associated with psychological symptoms. Conclusions: The findings suggest prevalence of anxiety and dysfunctional beliefs. Further research is needed to ensure that the psychological discomfort will not create obstacles in better management of the disease and the patient’s quality of life of patients.
