Summary:
Friendship is considered to be one of the most important dyadic relationships that individuals develop in the hypermodern society. It contributes significantly to the construction and development of the psychosocial identity and it can also function as a tool for determining the position of an individual in a contemporary and highly differentiated environment. The goal of this small-scale research project is to identify through a literature review the main features of friendship and to examine how such an intimate relationship differentiates when evolving in a normative organizational environment. Through the narratives of ten contributors, the research attempts to explore their experience of friendship at the workplace and record a conflict between friends regarding work related issues in order to understand the effects it can have on both the friendship and the work relationship. The results show that friendship is often intertwined with the work relationship and as a result both can be affected by such a conflict. The experience of working with friends is considered a positive one for the individual and - under conditions; the organization as well.
