Original Title:
Πλαισίωση και τηλεοπτική ενημέρωση: Η κάλυψη της είδησης του κλεισίματος της ΕΡΤ
Summary:
The dissertation at hand explores how the main newscasts of the three most important - in terms of viewership - Greek private nationwide television stations (MEGA, ANT1, ALPHA) covered the political decision to suddenly close down the Hellenic Public Broadcasting Corporation (ERT). Our theoretical starting point is the concept of Framing, which is presented in the light of its great importance in the era of Postmodernity, as an approach of how contemporary media represent reality. The research takes into account specific frame typologies which are frequently used by the media, in order to map social and political content issues. Furthermore, the dissertation attempts to correlate media frames with specific political ideologies of Modernity. Finally, it investigates whether the media framing of the closing down of ERT, can be correlated with the dominant diachronic perception of public broadcasting in Greece in ideological, political and social terms, as well as with the particular circumstances under which the decision for closing down ERT was taken and implemented.
