Charles Baudelaire, Flowers of Evil and Kostas Ouranis, Poems: A Comparative Study
Summary:
This is a comparative study of Charles Baudelaire’s collection Les Fleurs du Mal (1857) and the posthumous collective edition Poems (1953) by Kostas-Nearhos Ouranis conducted at a morphological, rhetorical, thematic and stylistic level. The close reading study reveals their common relation with French symbolism as well as their thematic analogy regarding the following motives: Journey - Love - Ideal - Evil – Spleen. The significant influence of Baudelaire’s poetry on Ouranis’ work is indicated through specific poetic examples along with the uniqueness and originality of each one’s poetic expression.
