Τhe field of data protection is constantly reshaped due to the rapid technological changes and. hence, is considered of utmost importance in the modern globalised world. The examination of the adequacy of the new EU - U.S. Privacy Shield, regulating the data flows from the European Union to the United States of America, constitutes the main issue of the dissertation and is based on a comparative analysis of the European legal standards and the U.S. data protection level. Due to the major importance of data flows in socio - economic life, particular reference is made to social networking platfrorms and the specific implementation of the Privacy Shield.
