At a time when the popularity of news items can be measured by the amount of "likes" and "followers" of any given content, journalism is undergoing a major shift towards catering to internet consumers. Greek media managers are reconsidering the quality of news content presented and the revenue structure built to accommodate the business. This paper addresses how the biggest online media companies in Greece are adapting to this new reality and how this highly measurable audience response factors into newsgathering and programming decisions. The research which will be presented reveals the specific views of fourteen Editors in Chief of leading Greek media companies regarding the degree of public response to news, the conflict with traditional methods of reporting and the overall influence of new media on journalism as they navigate the digital age.
