Summary:
The present work investigated the contribution of oral history in museums as alternative educational tool in historical understanding, critical historical thinking and learning motivations for history study of children in Primary School. This context of investigation includes the writing of a theoretical framework on relation of oral history and history education and oral history and museum education through literature review with Greek and international examples. The preparation and implementation of educational program “To Gkazoxori leei tin istoria tou” for children 9-11 years old in Industrial Gas Museum is a practice of this theoretical investigative framework. The subject of the program is the old industrial neighborhood of Athens, the living conditions and its pollution as a result of the operation of a gas plant in this area since 1984. The program emphasizes on workers of the gas plant and their working conditions. It utilizes in its implementation sound oral testimonies of pre workers and inhabitants of this area, which are exposed today and incorporated in museum path of visitor in Industrial Gas Museum in Technopolis of City of Athens.
Methodologically this work applied Bibliographic Overview about Theoretical Framework and Research Framework through implementation of educational program in Industrial Gas Museum. As an evaluation of program qualitative and quantitative data were collected about learning response of school groups through observation and administering questionnaires to children and teachers.
