Summary:
The visual narratives, especially those that respond to a wider audience, show the degree of influence of the products of mass culture on the social body. In this work, landmark films from the 1990s, from British and French film production, were selected to illustrate the difficulties experienced by young cultures at the end of the 20th century.
The study of the 1990s European youth and its subculture in the urban space through their representations in the cinema of the time reveals the way and the relationship that is created between the young subjects and the urban landscape in which they live.
The concept of space is important as spaces are constantly created, reproduced and transformed in relation to earlier spaces that were created and established in the past. The spaces are closely related to the formation of biographies and social relationships. Landscapes give substance to identity and are fundamental to the construction of social worlds.

In the present study, we attempted to examine films that cover the entire 1990s. Key examples include Danny Boyle's Trainspotting and Mathieu Kassovitz's La Haine. These films are complemented by Mike Leigh's Naked, Justin Kerrigan's Human Traffic and Leos Carax’s Les amants du Pont-Neuf.
