Summary:

The subject of this thesis is the way in which Ovid incorporates the previous versions of Io’s myth in the Heroides and the Metamorphoses. The first section of the thesis deals with the previous versions of the myth and the elements that Ovid borrows for his own version in the Heroides and (mainly) in the Metamorphoses. The second section deals with the heroine as an exemplum for her descendants in the epic, Europa, Semele and Ino.
