Study of the potential wound healing action of Ceratothoa oestroides extracts in human dermal cells
Summary:
The marine organism Ceratothoa oestroides belongs to the order of Isopoda and is a protandrous hermaphoditic parasite widespread in many fish families. This assay has as subject the study of the potential action of C. oestroides extracts in wound healing process. The research incorporates cytotoxicity assay, cell proliferation & collagen synthesis assay and scratch assay on human skin fibroblasts and immortal keratinocyte cell line HaCaT. Results have shown that all four tested extracts stimulate cell proliferation while three of them have a small but statistically important stimulating action at collagen synthesis. Further research of these extracts could be helpful to clarify the molecular mechanisms that are involved for the purpose of use them for pharmaceutical or cosmetic applications.
