Comparison of Translations of Dimitrios Vikelas, Vasilis Rotas and Enrikos Belies in Shakespeare's Hamlet

This ΜPhil thesis aims to explore in depth the tragedy of Shakespeare's Hamlet's tragedy through three important people who have marked the history of Greek translation with their careers. The three translators, belonging to different centuries, are confronted with different historical conditions for Greece which combined with their ideology and beliefs about language, are "recorded" in the language and form of their translations. William Shakespeare's Hamlet's theatrical text, which shares with the three translators "sensitive" themes such as corruption of power, betrayal, the tragic loneliness of the hero and the collapse of human relations, is chosen as the axis of comparison.
In the second part, the comparison of the translations is carried out in parallel with the original text and is the application of the previous theoretical part concerning the biography and the perceptions of the three translators, now full of abundant translational theory attempting to interpret their choices on specific points of the theatrical text. The ultimate goal is to offer a philological, practical, translational and dramaturgical deepening of Hamlet's "timeless escort" of the three men. Finally, the chapter of the conclusions and the bibliography are presented.
